Sing Lum Elementary School History
Sing Lum Elementary is a thriving and state-recognized K-6 school located in the Campus Park neighborhood in southwest Bakersfield. Our staff and students are extremely proud that Lum was selected as a California Distinguished School. We serve a diverse community of about 800 learners from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Our school's namesake, Mr. Sing Lum, was a lifelong resident of our area, former school board member, and at the age of 70 set national senior division records in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Sing Lum Elementary endeavors to extend the example set by him to our students through community service, and encouraging each child to do his or her personal best.
The Sing Lum Campus has a teaching staff of over 30 regular classroom teachers and three special education teachers. Support personnel for the instructional program include itinerant instrumental and vocal music specialists, and a speech therapist. Other support personnel include a library clerk and classroom/yard aides. District psychologists, nurses, and curriculum and technology specialists also provide support as needed.
